My journey starting ABLO over the last 5 months

I launched A Bag Less Ordinary on the 6th of November 2017, just over 6 months ago. The weeks running up to the launch of my Etsy shop opening were pretty intense, every morning I woke at 5am without fail, my mind buzzing. I would jump out of bed and get straight on my laptop making my Etsy shop as good as it could be. Although it wasn't like launching my own website there was still so much do to, the list was endless. I think the early morning waking was also excitement. I was finally making my dream of having my own business a reality and I couldn't wait to share my creativity and vision! But of course it was mixed with nerves as putting yourself and your products out there for the world to see is very exposing and scary.

Then the launch day came and it was relief to finally have my Etsy shop open and ready to trade! I got a sale literally minuets after I posted on social media and that was a real boost and so exciting to hear the kerching sound of the Etsy app! But the first month was slow and as much as I knew this was normal in the first weeks of opening an Etsy shop, it was still hard and I couldn't help but feel frustrated. So I would research how best to optimize my shop and constantly tweek things, work on SEO and social media and soon sales started to pick up and I relaxed a bit!

Since that first month I have worked really hard. I feel like I have to work extra hard as I am also a mum to a lovely and incredibly lively two year old who likes lots of attention :). I work part time as he only goes to nursery in the mornings. Running a small business takes a lot of effort and there are many different aspects to it. One day I might be sewing, photographing and uploading products onto my Etsy shop and another day I might have to work on book keeping and ordering supplies. I love that the work is varied, that I am in charge of my own time and that after many years I am able to truly express myself creatively, there really is no better feeling.

The highlights so far with ABLO have been making 140 sales on my Etsy shop, receiving only 5 star reviews from the loveliest customers and hearing such great feedback from people when I have done markets. It's important to remember these positive achievements when I am having difficult days as there are times when it seems a little too much!

My challenge now is to be more structured with my days and make sure I have a weekly timetable where certain tasks are allocated for each day of the week. So maybe on Mondays I only do admin and on Tuesday I just make. I think I also need to give myself time to relax each week as at the moment it's mainly work and looking after my little one and that is just not sustainable! I'm excited to continue my journey of growing my brand and feel inspired by all the other small and successful creative businesses out there who show me what can be achieved if you work hard and believe in yourself.
